Tools for Off-Site SEO Auditing

Step 1

  • Start at Moz.com. If you happened to have logged out you can log in again here.

Step 2

  • Once you log in, you will be brought to the homepage. Locate the box entitled Moz Open Site Explorer and click the arrow to the right of the words Open Site Explorer.

*June 7, 2018 Note: Moz is currently rolling out a new tool in beta. You cannot access Moz Open Site Explorer on the homepage as seen below. You can still access Moz Open Site Explorer to do your project

Step 3

Now you are ready to start your Backlink Audit!

  • In the URL bar, type in the website URL of the site you would like to audit for backlinks and click Search.

Step 4

  1. Familiarize yourself with your site's information. Look at the Domain Authority, Page Authority, and Page Link Metrics to get an idea of the current status of the site.
  2. Notice you are already in the Inbound Links tab. Stay on this tab to complete the Inbound Link Audit.

Step 5

  • Sort the Inbound Links by Domain Authority (DA) by clicking the down arrow to the right of Domain Authority (DA) to rank your results from the highest Domain Authority to the least.

Step 1

  1. Navigate to SEMRush. You will need to create a new account to perform this free exercise.
  2. Enter a domain or URL into the search box for which you like to analyze the organic search traffic numbers and click Start Now.

Step 2

  • Identify the monthly organic search visitors by locating the box entitled Organic Search.

Step 3

  • Conduct another search by typing in a new website into the search box for which you would like to analyze organic search visitors.

  • Review your results! Look for the number of pages indexed in Google under the heading Google Indexed Pages.

Google Page Speed Insights

Step 1

  • Go to the Google Page Speed Insights tool and enter the website URL for the site you would like to perform a page speed test. Click Analyze.

Step 2

Time to review your results!

  1. Click on the Mobile tab to review the Google Page Speed recommendations for mobile.
  2. Click on the Desktop tab to review the Google Page Speed recommendations for desktop.
  3. Scroll down to review all recommendations (i.e. Should Fix, Consider Fixing).

Think with Google

Step 1

  • Go to Test My Site Think with Google tool, and enter the URL of the website for which you would like to conduct a mobile friendly performance test. Click Test Now.

Step 2

Time to review your results!

  1. Review your Mobile Friendliness score. Is your score Good?
  2. Click on the down arrow to review specific recommendations to fix your mobile site to make it even more mobile-friendly.

Step 3

  • To view the details of your mobile-friendliness score, click VIEW THE DETAILS, in the Mobile Friendliness box.

Step 4

  • Review the recommendations provided (I.e. Passed, Consider Fixing, Should Fix).
